Poetry taken from Pearls
Poem #1: Pearls
Shining moments
spent with others,
strung together in time
make life glisten.
Poem #2: Precious Gems
Born of the earth
and
yet to be polished
by pain and sorrow.
In dark moments
love
chisels away fear,
turning it to
holy dust.
Revealing
untold facets
of ourselves
to reflect and magnify
divine light.
Poem #3: Mom's Hand-Me-Downs
First you gave me your body,
soft and short but strong.
It reflects back from my mirror,
in a loving form.
Then the young child in your heart,
she was passed along.
With your doll house, funny stories
and cheerful song.
Next, your strong will tempered by
a big smile I found,
and your laughter at a life that was
turned upside down.
Now I'm blessed with hand-me-downs
All bathed in your love,
I feel your spirit protecting me
From heaven above.
Poem #4: Whisperings
The ancestral whisperings of our past,
sometimes in cement are cast.
We birth and wed and dine and die,
to life's rhythm and our grandparents' sigh.
The memories heaped on this antique tray
celebrate these events with ritualistic display.
Then shared as stories to guide us through,
some are tainted with a shame marked hue.
These shoulds and shouldn'ts of our youth
were rooted with that first tooth.
All of us grow with some rules in tow
passed on by those blocked from love's flow.
Those family heirlooms we hold so dear
are keeping the stories of yesteryear.
Embrace these gifts of your history
studying the messages they bring to thee.
As there are many whisperings for our ear
filled with the love we yearn to hear.
Carefully listen for those sweet sounds
as it's within is that the voice is found.
