The Gift of Silence
By Amelia Gerlach
(written after July, 2008 Silent Retreat)
From the depths of intense sorrow,
Silence reveals my forgotten treasure;
Surprised when seeming opposites,
Embrace in joyful dance.
Puzzled by the mystery,
I reach inside for courage
To understand the gift of oneness,
Camouflaged in this precious moment;
Grateful for the beauty all around,
Whispering a gentle, soothing song;
Fluttering butterflies softly hinting
At the sweet freedom of letting go.
The chains that I thought were mine,
I clearly see as false.
Suddenly, I feel so light,
As I let the phantom go.
My heart leaps for joy,
I sense my spirit soar…
The tears dry, my eyes can see
The wings I always knew I had.
My heart knows now it can trust
The unexpected miracles that greet my soul,
With glorious sounds echoing
The powerful gift there is in love!
